Award show looking for custom toys!

The Australian Guild of Toymakers will be presenting Strange Forest as part of the Sweet Streets Urban Arts Festival.

Strange Forest is an installation designed to showcase the creations of many talented toymakers in a playful and creative setting. Have a look at the photos here ht…tp://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=186644&id=144382499520 for pictures of the Forest at previous events.

This is a fantastic opportunity for emerging and established artists to gain exposure and inspiration in Melbourne’s vibrant urban arts scene. We are currently seeking submissions of up to 5 toys per artist. The exhibition runs from the 8th – 24th October at 1000 Pound Bend in Melbourne. Submissions close 10th August 2010.

Urban Intervention: Street Sculpture Exhibition and Art Trail.

Featured

This exhibition encompasses numerous modes of street art sculpture and urban intervention including site specific installation, culture jamming, yarn bombing, guerrilla knitting and other public art forms that relate to an engagement, subversion, dialogue or interjection with the urban topography.

Art Trail: A Google mapping system will be provided to help you locate existing works by the artists in Melbourne’s laneways. Moving from the concrete jungle to the cyber highway and back again, this strategy is intended to ground and infer the works with a sense of their art historical and sociological context.

So get your wireless connection at the ready or grab a hard copy map and embark on an adventure through the laneways of Fitzroy and Collingwood. Due to the ephemeral nature of the street as an exhibition platform, some works may appear and disappear without warning! This secret Urban Art Map will be launched on 15th October. Stay tuned for updates!

Opening night during the Sweet Streets Festival: 6.00 pm Friday 15 October, Yarra Sculpture Gallery
