Fundraising Auction – Close of the Festival

Come along to one of the most anticipated events of Sweet Streets, as we close the festival with our Fundraising Auction.

Help raise money for the future of Sweet Streets as well as the Collingwood Housing Estate Arts Community, and Anglicare Victoria – our chosen charities.

Featuring signed prints donated by Obey, Acorn and Josh Cleary, the Award Show murals by well-known local artists including Deb and Drewfunk, and a range of unique works created especially for the Charity Auction, by local and visiting artists, through the facilitation of the Collingwood Underground Artists hub – active throughout the three weeks of the festival.

We are also extremely lucky to present for auction, one half of a diptych by Mat Benote, US conceptual graffiti artist, and famous advocate of the ‘gifted’ art movement. The other half of this piece has been ‘gifted’ to famous New York museum, PS1- essentially making this unique diptych, a live conceptual art piece for one lucky bidder.

This is your chance to get a unique piece of art at a bargain price – as well as your last chance to view the Award exhibition at 1000 £ Bend.

Opening of the Collingwood Underground

Come join Sweet Streets to celebrate the opening of the Collingwood Underground Wednesday 20th October 6 – 10pm. This is an exhibition of co-creativity between artists, and all involved with the festival, workshop participants, staff and audience. Free flow is the name of the game. We all need to play with this underground thing coz it’s real and does not belong to any individual, the opening will blow you away – you gotta help this be a real festival with the diversity we can all bring in our own unique ways. See magnificent walls painted during the festival by some of Australasia’s leading artists, images and footage of sweet streets happenings, participate in live painting, and generally immerse yourselves in this unique creative space.

Remember that Collaboration is at the heart of the “magic” we create!!!!!! People are the transformers – we are just the catalyst ————-Enjoy – there is more to come!!!!

Underground Artists Hub Opening times

Once again the Collingwood Underground Arts Park will be an integral venue for the Sweet Streets 2010 Festival. This unique space, which was once an underground car park and is still adorned with street art on the walls from last year’s festival, will provide a studio base for our artists, a venue for workshops, and an exhibition space for our artist run show during the last week of the festival. The hub will be open to artists supporting the festival: Tues 12 Oct (1-8pm), Thurs 14 Oct (1-8pm), Sat 16 Oct (4-8pm), Mon 18 Oct (2-10pm), Tues 19 Oct (2-10pm). Join renowned Australian street sculptor Daniel Lynch of the ‘JUNKYPROJECTS’ in a street art workshop with a difference. Make your own creatures, critters and cretins using nothing more than garbage and a few nails. Learn innovative techniques to turn an endless resource of everyday waste into amazing art pieces for all to enjoy.

Participants are encouraged to bring along any found objects and rubbish that they find visually interesting ( we suggest squashed aluminium and steel cans, bottle tops, tins, scrap timber off cuts, plastic cutlery, basically just about anything you can find) however some materials will be provided on the day. http://junkyprojects.weebly.com/

From cutting to spraying all the secrets of this DIY process will be revealed and you too can make your own two-toned stencil masterpiece. Bring along a photo or drawing of your choice; remember the more simple and contrasted it is the better; a selection of images will be provided on the day for those of you who can’t choose!

Stencil Master Class for Secondary School Art Teachers

Join Josh Cleary, a practicing street artist and secondary school art teacher, for this master class designed to better equip art teachers with knowledge and practical skills relating to the latest street art trends and techniques.

Incorporating this style of art into your teaching will instantly engage your students.  Learn how Josh has successfully incorporated contemporary stencil art into the curriculum for his students.

Teachers will leave this workshop armed with the basic knowledge, resources, and confidence they need to go back to their school and introduce elements of street art into the curriculum from junior school right through to senior school.
